Back ground:

Dahana Woreda (district) is located in Wag-Hemra Zone, Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia. It is located in north-east central highlands. It is about 60 kilometers form Sekota, the capital of the zone and 140 kilometers North of Lalibela.

The Woreda has experienced more than its share of hardship.  In the near past decades, the population had gone through many devastating wars; followed by sever famines and mass migration.  Despite, the Government’s generous effort, the area remained to lack basic infrastructures for development across the Woreda. To date, there is no accommodation suitable for visitors and public toilets even in the Capital, Amdework.

Draughts are expected than not.  Most of the Woreda’s sub-districts are not accessible by car.  The Woreda is only connected to Sekota (Capital of the Zone) by dirt road during the dry season.  Over 95% of the population resides in rural areas.

Dehana-Amdework foundation is created in July 2010, by few individuals, who came from the area and have strong passion to support and contribute to the development of the communities. The Foundation adopts Social Business approach so that all activities are eventually self - sustainable. The Foundation will mobilize initial investment resources directly from founding members and also Friends of the Foundation. It will also use its network and Friends of the Foundation, to mobilize grants from like - minded sources for the investment and running its programs. More importantly, the Foundation will tap on knowledge of its Friends of the Foundation and their networks on knowledge and expertise to support the programs. For example, at this moment the Foundation is working with a non for profit Belgian professional organization, known as Local Solution Development Group, in supporting the construction of the Lodge and Kinder garden.   Read more........
